Photographs of the chart records showing the many different wave forms assumed by auroral infrasonic waves are presented. The wave types vary from a single positive or negative pulse to pressure oscillations lasting for several hours and include a special type of repeated-pulse group which appears at distinct intervals averaging 3, 6, or 11 min following an initial disturbance. An argument is made that the appearance of this repeated pulse is a function of atmospheric structure rather than an electronic manifestation of the filters in the 10- to 100-s band pass of the recording equipment. |
