Lindzen, R.S. (1976). A modal decomposition of the semidiurnal tide of the lower thermosphere. Journal of Geophysical Research 81: doi: 10.1029/JA081i016p02923. issn: 0148-0227.

It is shown that observations of semidiurnal temperature oscillations from Millstone Hill, St. Santin, and Arecibo are consistently explained by the simultaneous presence of 2.4 and 2.5 tidal modes. The latter mode is found even during equinoxes, when it receives negligible direct forcing, suggesting the importance of wind-induced mode coupling.
