The location of radio aurora in the dayside (sunlit) auroral oval has been compared to the location of the field-aligned currents and energetic particles observed by Isis 2. The following have ben observed in the period after geomagnetic noon: Diffuse radio aurora occurs under the region 2 (downward) field-aligned current sheet and also under a region of >3-keV proton precipitation. However, this precipitation does not account for the field-aligned current. The relationship between the proton precipitation and the radio aurora remains, at present, morphological. In contrast, there is an indication that discrete radio aurora, when it occurs, does so under the region 1 (upward) field-aligned current. The situation prior to geomagnetic noon is confused and requires further observations for clarification.
