The instability of magnetosonic waves driven by &agr; particle beams and propagating along the magnetic field of the plasma consisting of electrons, protons, and &agr; particles with anisotropic temperatures has been analyzed. The electromagnetic dispersion relation with k⊥=0 has been solved numerically for typical solar wind conditions. The growth rate was found to occur near the helium cyclotron frequency.
