Gadsden, M. (1978). The sizes of particles in noctilucent clouds: implications for mesospheric water vapor. Journal of Geophysical Research 83: doi: 10.1029/JA083iA03p01155. issn: 0148-0227.

The amount of water vapor involved in the formation of noctilucent clouds may be a considerable fraction of the water vapor available in the mesosphere. If the cloud particles consist principally of ice, estimates of the amount of water in the clouds will correspond critically with the size of the particles assumed to be involved. The evidence for the typical radius being no greater than 0.1 &mgr;m is reviewed and found to be not as strong as might be thought.
