Howorka, F., Viggiano, A.A., Albritton, D.L., Fergusion, E.E. and Pehsenfeld, F.C. (1979). Laboratory studies of O++ reactions of ionospheric importance. Journal of Geophysical Research 84: doi: 10.1029/JA080i010p05941. issn: 0148-0227.

The rate constants for the reactions O++ ions with several molecules and atoms have been measured. For reaction with N2 the rate constant was found to be (1.6¿0.6) ¿10-9 cm3 s-1, which agrees very well with an earlier labortory study but which is considerably larger than the upper limit deduced from satellite observations.
