The natural remanence of 126 samples of igneous and sedimentary rock is studied. The remanence of the sedimentary rocks is found unsuitable for interpreting in terms of ancient geomagnetic field directions. Samples of igneous rock are found to be of varying stability but clearly merit further study, if more samples could be obtained, as such data would be of direct relevance to stratigraphic correlation and the tectonic history of this region. |
