Fifty-nine auroral displays which occurred during the Middle Ages and have not been cited in previous catalog are listed. All citations, reported in the original language, are from European sources with the exception of a few which were recorded in the Near Eastern area. All entries are followed by a translation into English. The list is preceded by a short discussion about some problems involved in the material as well as medieval terminology, dating, and identification of the events. For the scholar's convenience the dates of auroral displays cited in Link's (1962) and Newton's (1972) catalogs have been interposed among the new accounts. |
