Ionospheric electric field data from Chatanika, Alaska, and simultaneous riometer data from College, Alaska, are analyzed in the light of a recently proposed 'absorption' mechanism, whereby attenuation of the cosmic radio noise measured on riometers is at times the result of backscatter into space of cosmic radio waves by E region plasma waves.
