A model based upon Pioneer Venus data is constructed of the Venus atmosphere. A comprehensive discussion is given of the ultraviolet dayglow and a detailed assessment is made of the heating of the neutral and ionized components of the atmosphere arising from the absorption of solar ultraviolet radiation.
