The distribution of magnetic disturbance vectors in middle and low latitudes produced by the average three-dimensional current system which is obtained by using magnetic records from the IMS Alaska meridian chain is computed. It agrees fairly well with the observed distribution obtained by Akasofu and Meng [1969> by rotating the latter counterclockwise by about 15 ¿, although, the distribution obtained by Silsbee and Vestine [1942> must be rotated by as much as 30 ¿-45 ¿. The results suggest that there is no significant leakage of ionospheric currents from the auroral oval to middle and low latitudes.
