The widely used constant velocity technique is capable of mapping solar wind structures seen near 1 AU back to the vicinity of the sun with only limited accuracy. This report points out that relatively sophisticated MHD numerical models can be applied to this 'inverse' mapping problem, promising better accuracy, especially in the region of the stream front.
