Measurements from the University of California at Berkeley electric field experiment are combined with electron and ion measurements from the Lockheed and Aerospace experiments flown on the S3-3 satellite for two dusk auroral acquisitions on September 6 and September 18, 1976. For the first time, the diverse measurements obtained by experiments on S3-3 are combined in an attempt to describe the auroral morphology at ~1 RE altitude. A detailed picture of several electrostatic shocks, plasma wave emissions, and particle distributions are presented with auroral precipitation boundaries. Comparisons between estimated electric potentials above and below the satellite with those potentials measured at the satellite are made for a broad inverted 'V' structure. |
