A simple set of equations are derived for describing the cyclotron averaged motion of Landau resonant particles in a whistler mode wave propagating at an angle to the static magnetic field. It is argued that for the parameters of the inner magnetosphere, the equations would be an accurate description of the near-resonant particles' motion. The relative magnitudes of the wave magnetic and electric field forces are discussed and the parameter ranges for which the wave magnetic field effects can be neglected are specified. |
