In dynamical calculations inthe equatorial F region it is usually assumed that the current flowing through the base of the F region does so exclusively along the geomagnetic field lines. This hypothesis is revised in the present paper, and it is found that the major contirbution to the total flow at that height is given by the current normal to the field lines.
