This island, located southwest of Baja California, Mexico, is probably a remnant of the volcanic neck of a composite volcano. The summit has been eroded by wave action, and a broad insular shelf at about 80 fathoms indicates past eustatic sea-level lowering during the Pleistocene. The rock is trachyandesite, similar in composition to the alkali basalt-sodic rhyolite types of the other three Islas Revillagigedo.
