Eviatar and Richardson [1986> calculated the Pedersen conductance of Saturn's ionosphere and obtained values far smaller than previous estimates. They concluded that the low Pedersen conductance explained the corotation lag in the magnetosphere. We recalculated the Pedersen conductance and confirmed the original estimates. The magnetosphere should corotate with the ionosphere. We suggest that the eddy diffusion coefficient in Saturn's upper atmosphere may be small enough to allow the ionosphere to be significantly despun relative to the interior. ¿ American Geophysical Union 1988 |
