Absolute state-selected total cross sections for the reactions O+(2D) (or O+(2P))+N2→N+2+O, NO+ +N, and N+ + NO (or N + O) have been measured in the center-of-mass (c.m.) collision energy (Ec.m.) range of 1.3--25 eV. Charge transfer is overwhelmingly the major product channel. The ratios of the charge transfer cross section due to O+(2P) to that associated with O+(2D) at the corresponding Ec.m. are found to be in the range of 0.71--0.88. The cross sections for N+ resulting from the O+(2D,2P)+ N2 reactions are significantly greater than those fomed by the O+(4S)+N2 reaction. The Ec.m. dependences observed for the N+ cross section indicate that the formation of N+ +NO from the collision of O+(2P)+N2 is a viable process, whereas N+ formed in the O+(2D)+N2 reaction is mainly associated with the N++N+O channel. ¿American Geophysical Union 1991 |
