The magnetospheres of Earth and other planets, the solar wind, and the solar and stellar atmospheres are magnetically structured. The structuring can include tangential discontinuities. Wave propagation in magnetic structures consisting of an arbitrary number of parallel tangential discontinuities is considered. The governing equation for long nonlinear small-amplitude waves is derived. The solutions of this equation in the form of algebraic solitary waves and nonlinear periodic waves are found. ¿ American Geophysical Union 1992 |
