A survey has been made of candmium isotope abundances in 28 meteorites and three terrestrial samples. Within the limits of experimental error the isotopic composition of Cd was found to be uniform in all smaples except two meteorites, Brownfield and Tieschitz, where it was isotropically fractionated. The origin of this anomaly has not yet been established, but some possible mechanisms are proposed. No evidence of thermal neutron irradiation or inhomogeneous mixing of r, s, and p process produced nuclides could be detected. |
