Raman spectra of natural forsteritic olivine crystals under pressure up to 65 kbar show that peaks due to three major SiO tetrahedral vibrations vary similarly under pressure, which indicates that the intra-tetrahedral modes are not significantly affected. The SiO4 tetrahedra can be considered to be structurally independent of their immediate environment. |
