Acton, G.D. and Gordon, R.G. (1989). Limits on the age on the Deccan Traps of India from paleomagnetic and plate reconstruction data and their uncertainties. Journal of Geophysical Research 94: doi: 10.1029/89JB01465. issn: 0148-0227.

Revised limits on the age of the Deccan Traps of India are provided by recent improvements to reconstructions of India relative to surrounding plates since Late Cretaceous time, realistic estimates of the uncertainties in the plate reconstructions, and recent paleomagnetic data from the Deccans Traps and from North America. We estimate the age of the Deccan Traps by rotating its paleomagnetic pole into North American reference frame. Different assumed ages for the Deccan Traps result in very different positions for its paleomagnetic pole relative to North America. Comparing these positions with the North American apparent polar wander path and acccounting for uncertainties in both the paleomagnetic poles and in the reconstructions, we place limits on the age of the Deccan Traps of 62--72 Ma, significantly younger than found in several prior studies. The 62--72 Ma limits are consistent with ages obtained independently from radiometric dating and paleontology and are consistent with ages obtained independently from radiometric dating and paleontology and are consistent with the hypothesis that the Deccan Traps were extruded rapidly during reversed polarity chron 29r, which contains the Cretaceous-Tertiary boundary. ¿ American Geophysical Union 1989
