The refractive index and elastic constants of MgO have been measured up to 1900 K using Brillouin scattering. The refractive index shows a monotonic increase with temperature. Our elastic constant measurements slightly extend the temperature range previously covered in ultrasonic and resonance experiments; although overall agreement is good, small differences exist between the different determinations. ¿1991 American Geophysical Union
