Green, A.G. (1975). On the postulated Hawaiian plume with emphasis on the limitations of seismic arrays for detecting deep mantle structure. Journal of Geophysical Research 80: doi: 10.1029/JB080i029p04028. issn: 0148-0227.

Ray tracing through simple three-dimensional velocity models clearly demonstrates that a localized region of mantle inhomogeneity beneath Hawaii is not the source of the large dt/dΔ anomalies. Upper mantle inhomogeneity beneath western North America is shown to be the likely source of most anomalous seismic data recorded there from events in the western Pacific Ocean.
