Topex altimeter data is analyzed to describe the mesoscale eddy field associated with the Bering Slope Current in the central Bering Sea. The observed eddy field is well defined, seasonally modulated, and interannually variable. The most energetic mesoscale eddy activity typically occurs during the spring and summer months and is characterized by a peak along-isobath wavelength of 212 km and a representative wave period of ~4 months. Spatial variability of annual period phase indicates that the axis of Bering Slope Current exhibits seasonal offshore migration. ¿ 2001 American Geophysical Union
