The PB curves of upwelled Kuroshio waters in the sea northeast of Taiwan were constructed on a bimonthly basis from 1994 to 1995. The euphotic zone averaged light saturated specific primary productivity PeuB and the initial slope seu of the PB curves ranged from 3.655 to 10.583 g C a>-1 hr-1 and from 0.012 to 0.028 g C a>-1 hr-1 <μEinstein m-2 s-1>-1, respectively. The values of PeuB between September and November were ~2 times higher than those in other months. Here it is shown that the PB curve parameters can be used to accurately estimate euphotic zone integrated primary production with deviations of <6% from the in situ measured values. It was also found that the PB curve developed for the May 1995 cruise can also be applied to estimate primary production in the entire shelf region of the East China Sea south of Changjiang in spring, except at one station occupied by mainland China coastal waters. ¿ 2001 American Geophysical Union
