Zonal wind velocity in the tropical upper mesosphere was observed on 3 contiguous days in November 1977 by the VHF radar at Jicamarca, Peru (12.0 ¿S, 76.9 ¿W). A day-to-day recurring wind pattern was not always evident in the height range observed, but rather long-period oscillations with a period longer than 1 day seemed to coexist with tidal winds. The present observations suggests a possibility that the VHF radar technique is applicable to the study on large-scale waves on a time scale of the order of days. |
