Measurement of the absorption cross section of CF4 at 121.57 nm is reported with a value of &sgr;?0.97)¿10-27 cm2. The applicability of this result to Cicerone's recent calculations of the atmospheric residence time of CF4 assuming photodissociation of CF4 by solar H Lyman α in the mesosphere is noted.
