An extensive set of salinity-temperature measurements was taken in the ice-covered Barrow Canyon in early April 1976. An intrusion of relatively warm water into the mid-depth of the canyon is believed due to a surge-driven mixing of the Atlantic Layer with Arctic Ocean surface water on the upper continential slope.
