In a previous paper it was suggested that a substantial 11-year period solar cycle influence may exist in tropospheric wind and temperature data. The current study reanalyzes a subset of the original data with the intent of better assessing the significance of the reported correlations. Extensive use is made of empirical testing; also employed is a maximum entropy spectral analysis. The new findings indicate that the correlations between the 10.7 cm solar flux and 300 mbar winter winds are not statistically significant. An upper limit on the percentage of variance in these winds explainable by a solar cycle influence is suggested to be ~8%.
