Sea-breeze-like winds have been observed on the warmer side of the Gulf Stream when synoptic-scale winds blow from cool shelf water toward a warm water surface (Sweet et al., 1981). It is shown that a simple, thermally driven analytical model can explain satisfactorily the increase in wind speed from the cold to the warmer water side as resulting from horizontal temperature gradient across the Gulf Stream.
