Killworth, P.D. and Paldor, N. (1985). A model of sea-ice front instabilities. Journal of Geophysical Research 90: doi: 10.1029/JC090iC01p00883. issn: 0148-0227.

The linear instability of an infinite ice front overlying a passive ocean is demonstrated for the case where the ice concentration satisfies a simple condition far from the front. The long wave analytical estimates are confirmed numerically for an ice dispersivity that is not too small, but a very large dispersivity stabilizes the front. Inclusion of cross-frontal wind stress merely alters the mean state but does not affect the instability process.
