Two series of 40 temperature and salinity profiles were made in the marginal ice zone of the northeastern Greenland Sea/Fram Strait region. The first series showed much intrusive activity, while the second was dominated by internal wave activity. Displacement dropped spectra showed spectral levels scaled by Desaubies' (1976) analytic representation of the Garrett-Munk (1975) model to be comparable to those from lower latitudes though probably somewhat lower. Temperature dropped spectra showed severe contamination by intrusions. It is concluded that temperature spectra cannot be used to determine internal wave activity of the upper ocean in the marginal ice zone. ¿ American Geophysical Union 1987 |
