Many experiments on the generation of surface waves by wind have been carried out in laboratory wind wave channels with vertical sidewalls. In this note it is shown that surprisingly, the waves near the wall may be considerable steeper than those along the center line of the tank, by a factor of about 21/2. ¿ American Geophysical Union 1990
