The size spectrum of the particles produced by the bursting of bubbles in a laboratory-produced seawater whitecap, and the total charge carried by these particles, was investigated. The charge was found to increase strongly with water temperature. Production of aerosols of diameter greater than 3 micrometers was found to increase, though less strongly, while the production of smaller aerosols, if anything, decreased with water temperature. These results are consistent with the hypothesis that the charge is carried by a fraction of the larger particles. ¿ American Geophysical Union 1990 |
