Stewart, R.E. (1984). Deep 0°C isothermal layers within precipitation bands over southern Ontario. Journal of Geophysical Research 89: doi: 10.1029/JD089iD02p02567. issn: 0148-0227.

Isothermal layers having a temperature of 0¿C and depths up to 1 km were measured within two precipitation bands occurring within autumn storms over southern Ontario. Across these layers wind shears up to 0.02 s-1 existed, and aggregation led to particles up to ~200 mm in diameter. Melting and evaporation are proposed as contributing to the development of the layers.
