Schmit, T.J., Brueske, K.F., Smith, W.L. and Menzel, W.P. (1990). Visible and infrared spin scan radiometer atmospheric sounder water vapor and wind fields over Amazonia. Journal of Geophysical Research 95: doi: 10.1029/90JD00275. issn: 0148-0227.

Both the mass and motion fields for Amazonia have been depicted using almost exclusively geostationary satellite data. Derived parameters included statellite retrievals of atmospheric temperature and dewpoint temperature, total precipitable water vapor, and cloud and water vapor winds. The capabilities of geostationary satellite data have been demonstrated at least four times a day for the period of May 5--8, 1987, during the Global Tropospheric Experiment/Amazon Boundary Layer Experiment. The satellite-derived information is able to resolve synoptic-scale atmospheric trends in space and time. ¿American Geophysical Union 1990
