The spectral distribution of solar ultraviolet (UV) radiation received at the surface in the New Zealand region was first measured in October 1980. We present these results, together with results from a second campaign in November 1988. Ozone amounts were similar over the two observation periods. The measurements agree with calculated irradiances, and there is no evidence of unexplained changes over the intervening period. The sensitivity of UV irradiance to ozone changes is demonstrated in the spectral range 300 to 340 nm.
