The molecular sublayers adjacent to the air-sea interface are assumed to undergo cyclic growth and destruction in order to explain the exponential temperature profiles measured by Khundzhua and Andreyev. The duration of such cycles is taken to be randomly distributed in forced convection and a constant period is used to determine the temperature profile in free convection.
