Winter biotic activity and production of CO2 in Siberian soils: A factor in the greenhouse effect. Journal of Geophysical Research 98: doi: 10.1029/92JD02473. issn: 0148-0227.

Soil CO2 emissions at latitudes near 70¿N in northeastern Siberia have been measured and occur at levels high enough to account for the observed winter maximum in atmospheric CO2 concentrations in this latitude. This CO2 is produced by biological activity at the bottom of the active layer above the permafrost. Ecological and anthropological factors may play a role in stimulating this CO2 emission. ¿ American Geophysical Union 1993
