The homogeneous unimolecular decomposition of CF3OH was studied in a quartz flow reactor with a fixed-length, variable temperature reaction zone, using chemical ionization detection of CF3OH. The pressure independent rate coefficient for the decomposition of CF3OH in N2 was measured to be k∞(T)=(3+27,-2.7)¿1011 s-1 exp{(-(19¿4)¿103)/T}, which translates to a lifetime of greater than 104 years with respect to unimolecular decomposition in the atmosphere. ¿ American Geophysical Union 1995 |
