A comprehensive chemical model is applied to Titan's ionosphere in combination with a three dimensional magnetohydrodynamic model of the plasma flow in Titan's vicinity. The calculation shows that in the wake region the ionospheric plasma should concentrate in a thin sheet of a vertical thickness of 0.1--0.2 Titan radius. The major ions are C2H5+, H2CN+ and CH5+. These carbon- and nitrogen-based molecular ions can be used as a tracer of the magnetospheric dynamical processes. Âż 2001 American Geophysical Union |
