Briden, J.C. (1966). Estimates of direction and intensity of the palaeomagnetic field from the Mugga Mugga porphyry, Australia. Geophysical Journal of the Royal Astronomical Society 11(3): 267-278.
The mean direction of primary natural remanent magnetization of the Mugga Mugga porphyry, a late Silurian or early Devonian intrusion near Canberra, corresponds to a paleomagnetic pole at 158 degrees W, 71 degrees N. Comparison of calculated intensities of natural remanent magnetization and thermoremanent magnetization indicates that no serious decay of natural remanent magnetization has occurred, that the natural remanent magnetization may be close to the original intensity, and that the geomagnetic field intensity at the time of intrusion was about one fourth of the present intensity.
