This paper describes an approach to the statistical analysis of a linear model in which one regressor is an ordered categorical variable. The approach is based on fitting a model in which the ordered categorical variable is replaced by an estimate of the mean in each category of the underlying continuous variable. Significance is assessed using a randomization test. An application to estimating and testing the effect of rainfall on attendance at the Sydney Easter Show is presented. ¿ American Geophysical Union 1993 |
