Empirical relations between aerosol mass concentrations and ¿ngstr¿m parameters α were derived from simultaneous optical and chemical measurements on the Baltic in March 1998. The relations apply to mass concentrations of sea salt aerosol (SSA), black carbon (BC) and organic carbon (OC), expressed in terms of their ratio to the total particulate matter (TPM). Using these relations to calculate the mass concentrations of these aerosol components for a different season or a different area, yields favorable results. The relations were obtained and verified for ¿ngstr¿m parameters 0.2 ≤ α ≤ 1.43.
