I present quiet Sun solar disk averaged emission line intensities (at the Earth) and the full widths at half maximum intensity (FWHM) for the O+ and O++ emission lines that fall near 834 ¿. These lines are important as excitation sources for O+ and O++ emission in the Earth's upper ionosphere, plasmasphere and magnetosphere. I also discuss the variation of the ratio of O+ to O++ emission as a function of solar spatial fine structure in the quiet Sun. The spectra were obtained from the Solar Ultraviolet Measurements of Emitted Radiation (SUMER) spectrometer flown on the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory spacecraft. There are five O+ and O++ features in the solar spectrum involving nine spectral lines. The peak quiet Sun intensities (in units of 109 photons cm-2 s-1 ¿-1) of these features and their approximate centroid wavelengths are: 0.717, 832.85 ¿; 0.717, 833.30 ¿; 1.76, 833.74 ¿; 1.16, 834.45 ¿; and 2.68, 835.29 ¿. The average O+ and O++ FWHMs are 0.177 ¿ and 0.179 ¿, respectively. The difference in widths is not significant. |
