Dabas, A., Drobinski, P., Reitebuch, O., Richard, E., Delville, P., Flamant, P.H. and Werner, C. (2003). Multi-scale analysis of a straight jet streak using numerical analyses and an airborne Doppler lidar. Geophysical Research Letters 30: doi: 10.1029/2001GL014040. issn: 0094-8276.

Meteorological analyses from synoptic to mesoscales are combined with wind and cloud observations from the new French-German airborne Doppler lidar WIND to analyse the dynamics of an upper-tropospheric jet-streak. The results show the impact of ageostrophic circulations on mesoscale structure as observed by the lidar. Lidar data also reveal fine scale heterogeneities (horizontal wind shear over <40 km) at the edge of the jet streak associated to a structural modification of cirrus clouds.
