With the new data giving a larger value for the rate constant of the CFCl3-electron reaction, the alternative mechanism suggested by Fehsenfeld and Albritton (1976) does appear more feasible than when it was considered in the original article (Campbell, 1976). As pointed out by Fehsenfeld and Albritton, there is a relatively simple way to distinguish between the two proposed mechanisms by experiment.
