The region of plasma flow and electric field reversal in the late evening auroral oval was observed simultaneously by auroral radar and by rocket. A strong, 30-50 mV/m, northward electric field was measured in the southern part of the observing region and a strong southward field in the northern part. In the middle, rocket measurements showed a weak field that rotated from north, through east, to south. In this region, no radar auroral irregularities were observed when the electric field was less than ~20 mV/m.
