Hasegawa, A. (1979). Excitation of Alfvén waves by bouncing electron beams- an origin of nightside magnetic pulsations. Geophysical Research Letters 6: doi: 10.1029/GL006i008p00664. issn: 0094-8276.

Electron beams produced in the night to dusk-side magnetosphere at geomagnetic substorm times are shown to be able to excite the kinetic Alfv¿n wave, the Alfv¿n wave with a perpendicular wavelength comparable to the ion gyroradius. This process can be an origin of dusk-side magnetic pulsations which are often observed by synchronous satellites.
